Project Summer Institute

Inviting all Education Professions teachers to the ATLAST Summer Teacher Institute!

When: June 8-10, 2009
Time: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Mesa Community College (MCC), Dobson Campus

Join us for this three-day institute to learn about:

• Digital citizenship
• Virtual field trips
• Blogging with images and video
• Flip video cameras
• Flickr – a web 2.0 photo sharing application
• YouTube EDU and Teacher Tube
• Geocaching
• Technology literacy skills and standards
• Copyright issues

What is included?

• Guest speakers
• Technology industry tours
•  A visit to MCC’s planetarium
•  Light breakfasts and lunches

Participants will receive a $300 stipend (must attend all three days)






Agendas and Online Version of the Summer Teacher Institute


Day 1 Agenda: 
Introduce teachers to web 2.0 apps that permit the sharing of multimedia and communicating with multimedia. Fair use, copyright, and creative commons will be covered in relation to multimedia. Virtual field trips, collaborative learning objects, and mobile blogging are also introduced.  


Day 2 Agenda: 
Introduce teachers to media literacy, digital citizenship, tools for mobile blogging, and a visit to Phoenix’s video game industry.


Day 3 Agenda: 
Teachers will participant in a hands-on mobile blogging activity while exploring new classrooms of today requiring a different set of technology skills then classrooms of yesterday. Teachers will also learn new technology terminology while learning about Arizona’s tech industry. Teachers will also have the opportunity to chat with industry partners about skills they desire in future employees and what skills they think future teachers should be teaching.
