Podcast Workshop Agenda

 Workshop Goals

Purpose of Workshop
Teach participants how to produce a podcast from beginning to end using free software. The workshop will also introduce participants to a medical simulation lab and how video technology may be used for assessment feedback.

Big Ideas for the Day:
  1. Define podcast
  2. Instructional uses for podcasts
  3. Instructional design of podcasts
  4. Utilizing free software to produce podcasts
  5. Identifying hardware available to produce podcasts
  6. Process for posting podcasts to the internet for an audience
  7. Simulation labs for education
  8. Video as a form or assessment and feedback

Outcomes of Workshop
:
Participants will:
  • Produce a podcast from beginning to end, including posting it to the internet for listeners
  • Walk away with a list of free software available to produce podcasts
  • Walk away with a list of hardware options available to produce podcasts
  • Explore a medical simulation lab and how video technology can be used for assessment and feedback
  • Receive a book from ISTE, Student-Powered Podcasting: Teaching for 21st Century Literacy
  • Opportunity to earn additional stipend $100 for implementing technology learned at this workshop

Activity 1

Welcome and Share/Reflect
Returning ATLAST Workshop participants will take time to reflect on their technology implementations and experiences occurring since their ATLAST Workshop in addition to further developing and discussing eportfolios (reflect verbally as a group or in eportfolios).

 Activity 2

Podcast Introduction
This activity will introduce participants to podcasting and examples of educational podcasts.



 Activity 3

Instructional Design of Podcasts
Lisa Young, faculty instructional technologist from Scottsdale Community College, will share what she learned about the instructional design of podcasts while conducting her dissertation research.
 


 Activity 4

Begin Creating a Podcast
Participants will start the process of creating their own podcast.

 
 

 Activity 5


Medical Simulation Lab Tour

Participants will have the opportunity to tour a medical simulation lab at Glendale Community College and learn how video assessments are being utilized.

Finish Creating a Podcast
Participants will continue the process of creating a basic audio podcast.

Producing and Posting a Podcast
Participants will finish recording their podcast and will post it to the internet for an audience.
