I will use Google Apps to be able to post a calendar for my CAVIT students to keep them up-to-date on what is going on.  I also want to use the correspondence section to put in all schedule changes.

Wow!  Once more I am so excited about using Google Apps.  I want all my students online chating and collaberating together.  I just wish I had more time to set it all up.

Statewide Data Systems

Available stimulus money for technology in education: "President Obama and U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan have emphasized the need for all states to implement longitudinal data systems to track the progress of students from kindergarten through college and the workforce. Those data systems also would link students to their respective teachers and help school leaders identify strengths and weaknesses within their districts."

Summer Institute Days 2 and 3 Reflection

posted Jun 15, 2009 10:23 AM by Kelly Dooling

I've been bad at posting my impressions of the last two days of the institute. Overall, I think it went really well. I was impressed at how much information the teachers are learning, and at how well the teachers, students and facilitators work together. In particular, it is heartening to see teachers at ease with asking questions, raising hands, etc. for individual assistance. Jeannette and Shelley's efforts to build rapport with teachers was essential to making this project a success. I am also impressed with the enthusiasm demonstrated by participating teachers. It is a testament to their thirst for knowledge and skills that will enhance their classroom environment. Its just a shame that ATLAST is the only source of technology training that seems to be available to them.

Thank you to you all for your participation and input. See you in the fall!

Virtual Field Trip: So You Want to Be a Teacher?

Goal: To discover the diversity in teaching through exploring diverse districts in urban, rural, affluent, and title I communities and identifying various grade levels, subject areas, and technologies used in instruction.

The Rainbow studio opened a whole new awareness for me.  First of all I had no idea that this existed here.  It was an impressive place filled with people with a common passion working on a common mission.  A great place to "work" with emphasis on fun.  How cool is that?  Everyone was accommodating and genuinely happy to have visit and share their work environment with us. Field trips such as this are always helpful to teachers since we often forget what is really happening out there.

Great model on collaboration and project planning.  Opened my eyes to the possibilities with media.  As educators, we need to do a better job of empowering our students and creating opportunities for them to be independent learners and exercise their creative genius. The challenge is to operate within the peramitors of our individual classroom environments while allowing students to explore possibilities beyond the walls of the classroom.
